An opportunity has come up to join the Colorectal team, within the surgery division at QMC as a part time Patient Pathway Administrator.

This role is being offered on part time basis (days to be decided). The post is based at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham.

Main duties of the job

As a PPA within the Colorectal team you will be responsible for monitoring patient results and letters and ensuring they are reviewed in a timely manner. The role holder will work closely with the waiting list coordinators and deputy service manager to help ensure local and national targets are met.

In undertaking this role, the employee will be expected to behave at all times that are consistent with and actively supports the Trust values which are detailed below.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Maintain databases for patient results and clinics

Work closely with waiting list coordinators to ensure letters are authorised in a timely manner

Responsible for the production of discharge summaries, clinical papers and material for publication from either audio or copy typing.

Use judgement and initiative to prioritise the importance/urgency of particular requests within defined guidelines

Undertake daily peer audit of clinical correspondence to ensure a high standard of accuracy and quality of work.

Ability to exchange sensitive or contentious information with diplomacy and in a confidential manner.

Liaising with outpatient administrator re. Appointments and necessary important clinical information to ensure patients are seen on their pathway without delay.

Manage e-mail accounts to retrieve Inter Provider Transfers then record and take any necessary action as appropriate

To undertake other specialty specific duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures to facilitate the patient pathway

Ensure RTT patient data quality is accurate at all times

Adapt a flexible attitude to meet the needs of the service, taking into consideration each department’s unique specialty and the subsequent requirements of such specialist services.

Promote an open friendly working environment

Adhere to Trust policies and procedures relevant to your position.

Participate in a Personal Development Plan.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • 5 GCSE’s or equivalent C or above – must include English
  • Computer literate to ECDL standard or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous MS Office Experience
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality
  • Must be able to clearly and accurately convey information verbally

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working in the NHS and experience using MS Office, Medway PAS and Notis
  • Medical Terminology

Communication

Essential criteria

  • Uses correct grammar and spelling
  • Must be able to clearly and accurately convey information verbally gathered from both verbal and documented reports
