Boeing Research and Technology Center (BR&T) - Japan supports Boeing Business Units by collaborating with local Japanese entities to execute technology co-development projects with a focus on sustainability initiatives. BR&T - Japan also supports the Japanese supply chain on various Boeing commercial programs (737/747/767/777/787) and the integration of manufacturing technologies in Japan.

Boeing International Corporation is building a team of Renewable Energy & Sustainability R&D Engineers Boeing Research and Technology Japan for the office located in Nagoya, Japan.

Our Global Technology organization in collaboration with Sustainability & Future Mobility (ET&T) has a few new positions for Sustainability Systems Engineers who are passionate about decarbonizing aviation! This engineering positions will support the Sustainability & Future Mobility team across Boeing’s enterprise in generating and executing sustainability initiatives for current and future Boeing products and services within Japan. The role will work with internal and external stakeholders to develop work statement, integrate technical requirements and develop a portfolio of technologies critical to Boeing enterprise sustainability objectives. Additionally, this person will integrate with Boeing’s global Research and Technology sites and be a critical partner in current and future Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) R&D projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of scope of work and execution of technical studies and research and development aligned to Sustainability & Future Mobility objectives.
  • Coordinate sustainability research projects, together with fellow subject matter experts and global leaders including renewable energy (electrification, hydrogen and hybrid solutions) and power systems.
  • Support development of Sustainability & Future Mobility technology roadmap through integration of key findings and technical models developed in the studies.
  • Provide technical, business and integration leadership for the development and execution of project or team plans. Work under consultative direction.
  • Provide SAF subject matter expertise, inform and guide the company on SAF research projects. Help shape and deliver strategic SAF projects and SAF program elements to deliver objectives. Work on development and adoption of policies to foster commercialization and usage.
  • Effectively communicate activities internally at BR&T-Japan and in close coordination with BR&T Global Tech colleagues working on Sustainability research projects.
  • Partner with relevant colleagues around the globe to develop and advance Boeing SAF strategy.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Engineering degree or higher in an Engineering field
  • Experience working in a distributed environment and multiple teams
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in leading projects and/or Engineering teams
  • Minimum 2 years relevant
  • Strong technical research skills and the ability to synthesize results and make recommendations
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with research institutions, senior executives, customers, stakeholders, peers, and partners
  • Experience with clean energy transition, climate change, or related topics
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex topics to various audiences using range of mediums
  • Experience multi-tasking and working in a team environment
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English
  • Knowledge of technology portfolio and technical project management principles and best practices
  • Team player with a passion for sustainability and enthusiasm for the aviation industry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience leading research projects
  • Experience in the field of bioenergy, biofuels or related areas
  • Familiarity with aviation industry’s commitments to decarbonization the industry
  • Strong business acumen to assess strengths and weaknesses of projects developed in the aviation sustainability space
  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area
  • Ability to build relationships to gain support and commitment from promote ideas with enthusiasm, conviction, and assertiveness
  • Japanese proficiency is highly preferred

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+1 years' related work experience, Master+2 years' related work experience).
