Flow Assurance Lead

ARAMIS Carbon Capture & Storage Project

TotalEnergies, Shell Netherlands, Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) and Gasunie formed a partnership to facilitate large-scale CO2-reduction for industrial clusters in the Netherlands. Under the name ARAMIS, these parties will collaborate in the development of new CO2 transportation infrastructure for offshore CO2 storage.

On behalf of the partnership, TotalEnergies is looking for an experienced Flow Assurance Lead. You will work in an integrated project team and report to Process & Flow Assurance Lead.

Your responsibilities

As the Flow Assurance Lead, you will have the direct responsibility for all activities related to the Flow Assurance discipline and represents the Company technical authority for this discipline. You will have a multifaceted role, overseeing and controlling all aspects of flow assurance for the assets, and considering interdependencies with other operators. You will also be responsible for maintaining and updating existing engineering documentation for the assets, ensuring the highest safety standards are upheld, and maintaining the continuity and optimization of hydrocarbon production.

What exactly are you going to do?

  • Lead and coordinate all flow assurance activities to ensure safe and efficient production, addressing any related challenges along the way.
  • Develop and implement a risk-based approach to CO2 process management, providing updated operating guidelines for the site.
  • Establish and manage the Pipeline Management System (PMS) for the Aramis system operation, serving as the main contact for commissioning of PMS and offshore DCS installation.
  • Collaborate with HQ on software development and R&D efforts, maintaining close communication with reservoir and well performance to improve flow assurance models.
  • Contribute to BD/DSP development studies and propose justifiable modifications to enhance equipment safety, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Proactively monitor, review, and analyze plant and equipment performance, optimizing production and sharing best practices.
  • Develop budgets and plans for studies or modifications, and ensure cost control processes are adhered to, keeping expenditures within acceptable percentages of the original budget.
  • Prepare scopes of work for vendor services, coordinate vendors, materials, and equipment for planned and unplanned activities, and foster positive relationships with contractors and suppliers to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Participate in engineering studies related to the interface with geotechnical, construction, rotating, and process disciplines during the FEED.
  • Review and assess if any of Civil Early Works’ scope of work (design & construction) is being executed by local engineering/construction contractors.
  • Maintain and update existing engineering documentation for the assets, ensuring the highest safety standards and optimization of hydrocarbon production are upheld.
  • Take responsibility for reviewing contractor documentation and modeling related to flow assurance discipline, calculations, procedures, document structure, format, and interface with other disciplines.

The ideal Flow Assurance Lead

In terms of management capacity and skills, the perfect candidate must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and achieve outcomes by navigating across disciplines, while also exhibiting balanced and prudent decision-making capabilities. Being results-oriented and a team player is vital for seamless collaboration within complex project teams, interdisciplinary departments, and an international workforce. Due to the engineering team's need to work alongside the chosen FEED contractor, who may be located outside The Netherlands, it is essential to be flexible from a mobility perspective.

Your skills

  • Degree in Chemical/Process Engineering or equivalent;
  • Minimum 10 years engineering experience in oil and gas/CO2 pipeline networks process/production;
  • Extensive knowledge of onshore/offshore process, production systems and flow assurance issues;
  • Knowledge of industry norms and specifications;
  • Experience of working in an offshore environment;
  • Ability to work transversally to achieve outcomes whilst showing balanced and prudent decision-making capabilities;
  • Excellent understanding of all aspects of the discipline, ability to work autonomously with great rigor and precision;
  • Fluency in English (speaking and writing) is required.

Our offer

You will join the partnership and work with a dynamic and diverse team on one of the most important energy transition projects of our time.

We offer an attractive salary package aligned with your experience. You will be hired through an agency. This is a full-time office-based position with frequent business travel. Initially, you will be based in The Hague, Netherlands. It is expected that the engineering team will collocate with the selected FEED contractor, who may be located outside The Netherlands.

About us

TotalEnergies is a prominent player in the international energy market. In the Netherlands, our Exploration & Production division (TEPNL) focuses on gas extraction in the North Sea using advanced unmanned satellites, platforms, and subsea production facilities. Alongside this, we are actively engaged in the ARAMIS project, which seeks to repurpose depleted fields for the storage of CO2.

This groundbreaking initiative is set to play a vital role in reducing emissions and providing CO2 transport to unlock storage capacity for key industries such as steel, chemicals, cement, refineries, and waste incinerators. By transporting CO2 to depleted offshore gas fields under the Dutch North Sea, ARAMIS provides an effective decarbonization solution for the industrial sector. Notably, it operates on an 'open access' philosophy, which means that industrial customers and offshore storage providers can easily connect to the infrastructure at a later stage.
