We are currently looking for an experienced, dynamic, and highly motivated WordPress Engineer to join our dedicated team and play a crucial role in building a standardized and extensible WordPress platform and seamlessly integrating newly acquired websites.
You will work closely with our development, design, and content teams to build a standardized site template that reflects our brand identity and meets the highest performance standards. Additionally, you will be responsible for the successful migration of acquired websites onto our standardized platform, ensuring a smooth transition for both users and stakeholders.
The big projects on the WordPress horizon are:
- Building a Wordpress foundation that will work across the many Wordpress sites we have. We need to be efficient, so are looking at ways to develop a template that can be used across multiple brands, while giving customers a coherent experience. We would also like the content publishing experience to be consistent for staff working across different brands.
- Building a shared authentication framework that can be applied across all sites.
- Integrating with our new customer management system to interpret customer access to paywalled data.
- Sharding content and data across sites - for example, building a widget that allows listings from our aircraftforsale.com website to be seen on our WordPress sites.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop a standardized site template using WordPress, ensuring consistency in branding, user experience, and performance.
- Customize WordPress themes and plugins as needed.
- Lead the migration process of acquired websites onto the standardized platform, ensuring data integrity, SEO preservation, and minimal disruption to users.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to WordPress installations, themes, plugins, and server configurations.
- Optimize website performance, security, and scalability through code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends in web development to recommend innovative solutions for our digital properties.
- Collaborate with front-end and back-end developers, designers, and content creators to deliver cohesive and user-friendly web experiences.
- Document technical processes, guidelines, and codebase for knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior developers and assist in their skill development.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of professional experience in WordPress development, including custom theme and plugin development.
- Strong proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript (React, but not a must, would consider other JS) and MySQL.
- Experience with responsive and mobile-first web design principles.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
- Solid understanding of SEO best practices and website optimization techniques.
- Previous experience with website migrations and data management.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a remote or distributed team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with performance optimization tools and techniques is a plus.
- Knowledge of other content management systems and frameworks is a bonus.
