This recruitment is for two (2), limited duration, full-time position located in Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE) and is represented by Oregon Public Safety Association. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies.
Limited duration positions are benefit eligible positions with a designated maximum length of service. This position is expected to last through July of 2025; however, based on workload need and funding the position end cannot be anticipated or may become permanent depending on funding

What you will be doing:
The purpose of this position is to implement Board-approved Skills training to public safety professionals enrolled in discipline-specific basic training at the Oregon Public Safety Academy; to ensure a minimum level of proficiency and/or skill as required to achieve the training standards established for certification and preparing public safety professionals to return to any of the approximately 200 constituent agencies in Police, Parole & Probation, or Corrections, that DPSST serves across the state.
This position directs the development, administration, and delivery of basic skills training programs for police, corrections, and parole & probation, as defined in ORS 181.610-690, on the DPSST campus. Provides supervisory oversight of assigned skills training staff working at the Oregon Public Safety Academy.

Please Note: This position is part of the agency’s budget which is waiting for formal approval. If it is approved before this recruitment is over, the successful candidate will be offered a permanent position. If the agency budget has not yet been approved, the successful candidate will be offered a limited duration scheduled through July 2025 – however, based on workload need and funding the position end date cannot be anticipated. Once final budget approval is received, the position will be made permanent, and the incumbent will move into the permanent position without additional recruitment processes.

The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) oversees the development of professional standards and the delivery of quality training for law enforcement officers, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, firefighters, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers. DPSST is also the regulatory agency that enforces employment and training standards for the above listed public safety disciplines and licenses proprietary security managers, security contractors and officers, polygraph examiners, and private investigators.

Minimum Qualifications:
Five (5) years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience.
OR two (2) years of related experience AND a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience assisting in budget requests and maintaining inventory systems, a plus.
Strong operational experience applying adult learning theory, a plus.
